Tate Britain

When Tate first opened its doors to the public in 1897 it had just one site, displaying a small collection of British artworks. Today Tate has four major sites and the national collection of British art from 1500 to the present day and international modern and contemporary art, which includes nearly 70,000 artworks. A number of new developments are planned for Tate Modern, Tate Britain and Tate St Ives to ensure the galleries continue to expand.

Merton Abbey Mills

Not only is Merton Abbey Mills London’s only riverside village. Not only is it one of London’s oldest heritage sites with a theatre that dates back over 400 years (part of the once standing Merton Abbey Priory which stood strong from the 12th century when it was built until Henry VIII got his despotic hands on it and tore it down). Not only is it a site of incredible ecological value on London’s River Wandle with, among many other species, a population of eels which are collected, measured and counted every week by the local artisans who report findings straight to London Zoo for research purposes; And a potters wheelhouse with London’s only working watermill, one of only four in the entire country. But this remarkable site is home to an entire community of creative arts and award winning, independent, world food producers. Merton Abbey Mills is a unique site in one of the most diverse cities in the world.

Visit Merton Abbey Mills and find out more about the incredible history, see what still stands from the days of Merton Priory, enjoy the community atmosphere, the great food, art gallery and boutique shops and take in the picturesque views.
